The great outdoors is my happy place. It drives my body, energises and refreshes me during busy periods and provides unrivalled relaxation. Whether it be surfing, running trails, riding my bike or just exploring with friends, being out and experiencing our world is what life is truly about!

Here are my tips on how to live free range and make the most out of life:

  • Surround yourself with like-minded individuals. This can be through joining a sporting team, finding a cooking club or becoming part of a group who share similar values. Ironically, social media is a great place to start for this. I am always seeing free walks, complimentary tours, group rides, runs and hikes all serving the purpose to get people involved and moving within their local community, not to mention connect those wanting to adopt a more free range lifestyle.

  • Be willing to try something new and put yourself out of your comfort zone when it comes to the outdoors and food. There is no better feeling than getting involved in something you’ve never done before, whether it be rock climbing or water skiing. With food, experiment with new flavours and have a go at that dish you always thought was ‘too hard’!
  • Sign up for something (enter a triathlon, sign up for a fun run) give yourself a reason (or an excuse) to be outside and enjoying your world.
  • Garden! No matter where you live there should be space and time in your life for growing plants and herbs. Connect to the Earth, get dirty, get sweaty and grow something, even if it is a tiny little herb (perfect to add to your epic meals!) on your balcony or roof top.

  • Walk and/or ride instead of taking a bus, Uber or driving. Not only will being outside make you look and feel better, it’s also better for the environment. I’m a big believer in small changes for the better being infectious – you may even encourage others to do the same!
  • Make a conscious effort to know where your food comes from and aim to cook more than you eat out. I’m a big advocate for ethically sustainable and higher welfare produce – there is no better feeling than knowing exactly what you’re putting into your body and where it came from.
